time capsule!

so i have a packrattish tendency to keep everything, and by that, i mean EVERYTHING.  from kindergarten valentine's day cards to movie ticket stubs to wrapping paper from elementary school birthday parties, few things in my possession make it to the trash can.  i think i've gotten a little better over the years at determining what should be thrown away, but i've still managed to accumulate a lot of stuff.

but guess what?

tonight i discovered a veritable time capsule - hidden beneath a box of those fat, round crayons from, i believe, first grade, was a little notebook, and inside, a list of my new year resolutions from 1997!  they were very simple:

New Year Resolution for 1997
1) Try to get rid of Black Eye Ring
2) Try not to get a cold

i'm pretty sure my 10-year-old self was, in the first resolution, referring to having dark circles under my eyes, from lack of sleep perhaps?  funny, i don't think i've improved at all in the area of hours of sleep per night; in fact, i'm quite sure i get a lot less sleep now than i did when i was 10.  also ironic is how i currently have a cold.  so once again, worse off than my situation a decade ago.

not much has changed in 10 years.  i wonder what the next 10 years will bring?

1230th anniversary

apparently, it's been over a thousand days since i joined xanga.  wow, it's been a while.  kind of missed that 1000th anniversary though.

only news from today is that National Instruments called me and said that all summer interns will be getting a $2/hr raise!  yay!!

i'm excited for working in texas this summer, but it's going to be so hot...i'm going to melt...just like this snowman:

cars + puddles = :(

after the illini men's basketball game today, catherine and i were walking back to our car when WHOOSH, this SUV comes driving by.  it swerves towards the curb right next to where we were walking, and before we realized what was happening, a 10-foot-high (i'm not exaggerating) wave of puddle water cascades onto our heads.

we were completely soaked in cold, muddy water!!  and it had obviously been done intentionally (the jerks! arrgh!), since the water was only really substantially deep right next to the curb, not in the middle of the road, so the swerve was timed in order to drench us completely.  i used to think this was something that only happened in movies, but apparently that is not the case.

i think some people are just mean =(

like this, but first double the height of the waves - that would be a closer approximation of what i experienced

p.s.: i have had many bad experiences with cars.  why is that?

i was almost hit by a car today

i was crossing green street right by Everitt because I was walking to the Union, and WHOOSH a car stopped about two inches from my left knee.  I actually even side-stepped a little and put my hands on the car (a maroon Lincoln sedan driven by some old guy), which would have been a fairly futile move on my part if the car hadn't stopped in time.

it was really really really scary.  i think i just didn't notice that the car was actually accelerating in an effort to make it to the stoplight before it changed to red.

campus is a dangerous place, people.

beware the lincoln sedans!

why is it...

...that i always stay up late for art projects?  for some reason, i have never managed to complete art projects ahead of time.  i wonder why that is?

is it that my creativity exponentially increases as the time i have left decreases?
is it that art is just lower down on my homework priorities list?
is it that i just enjoy doing art projects at 3 am in the morning?

i really don't know.

however, i will admit that i really really really like art classes.  particularly the unconventional ones.  next semester i'll be taking a conventional painting/drawing one though - we'll see how that goes.

i wish i could get an art+design minor.  i'll have to settle for just doing an honors contract in art.

now what would be awesome would be if i could combine art with ECE....  impossible?  i think not!
